Smiling Jack
and overhead I heard the unmistakable sound of an old single engine plane and immediately thought of the comic strip Smiling Jack that I had read to me as a toddler and which I followed avidly throughout the years

Puddle Ducks and Fading Grounded Boat
Puddle Ducks
Puddle
ducks are typically birds of fresh, shallow marshes and rivers rather
than of large lakes and bays. They are good divers, but usually feed by
dabbling or tipping rather than submerging.
The speculum, or colored wing patch, is generally iridescent and bright, and often a telltale field mark.
Any duck feeding in croplands will likely be a puddle duck, for most
of this group are sure-footed and can walk and run well on land. Their
diet is mostly vegetable, and grain-fed mallards or pintails or
acorn-fattened wood ducks are highly regarded as food.

Everyone has heard of Walden's Pond - but this is the 2nd most famous pond
well not actually, as there seems to be no such thing, but to me this small unheralded pond is always a joy to behold
Beneath The Leaves
using the leaf blower I was doing the seemingly never ending task of clearing the leaves coming down in profusion from out many trees - and there beneath the leaves were these small light tan mushrooms scattered everywhere
