As I drove down to the old 'wharf' on this wind-chilled sunny afternoon the Great Blue came gliding in to land on the far side of the again frozen river - just above the old abandoned boat. By the time I unsnapped my camera case and got out of my truck to shoot him on the spot, he had pretty well taken up his sentinel stance that all Great Blue Herons seem to love. As you can see, it is a one-legged stance with the other leg tucked up under his breast with the claw-like foot plainly visible. Minimal heat loss for this time of year, eh?
