Luckily I am getting a few Merganser photos, even if only at distance, for I am sure that they will be moving on north soon as the days are steadily getting warmer. These were swimming south toward Twin Bridges as I drove by so I stopped where the verge widened enough to pull the car off the road. By the time I walked back to the bridge they had swum under it and were already far down the tide swollen waters. I snapped these few photos quickly and immediately after they took fright and swam to the far side of the river's bend. Notice the distinctive smooth black/green head and white neck and shoulder area of the male that separates it from the more crested Red-Breasted Merganser.
