the power is off but the trees are temporarily beautiful covered in crystal coverings of frozen sleet - though many will be damaged badly and also many will somehow shrug it off as the temperature melts the dazzle
Power Outage
POWER OUTAGE - the east coast storm that brought snow to many and rain to some, brought us the in-between of thick wet snow and sleeting rain - which in turn froze in place on the branches of the many trees and forested areas of much of our county. The heavy icy build-up on limbs and branches was particularly top heavy on the tall mature conifers of the Elk Neck area and trees were tumbling like dominoes or breaking off mid-way with sounds like rifle shots. Very early in the storm several large pines toppled across our power lines killing power and effectively blocking our lane to 272. So all day Tuesday, Tuesday night and nearly all of today we've been hoping to be reconnected.
I had heard the figure of some 40 thousand residences being without power and most of these were finally reconnected late this afternoon. Now those hearty and unsung linesmen are working in the dark in the beams of high powered work lights in the cold and wind doing the side roads like ours. My hat is off in thanks and respect for them.

8:45 p.m. power is on - furnace is on - water is on - I'm having a shot of single malt
