What's It All About, eh?

Cape Breton evokes deep memories and strong emotions for me as well as a deep appreciation for the beauty of my adopted island. My hopes are that you too might find the photos evocative - maybe a view you've not enjoyed before, or an 'Oh I've been there', or if from away that you may be encouraged to visit this fair isle so that you might come to love and breathe Cape Breton as I do. One word about place names that I use - some are completely local usage while others are from maps of Cape Breton that I've purchased over the years. I frequently post travel and other photos that are of interest to me - and hopefully you.

On the right hand side bar find my take on Single Malt whiskey - from how to best enjoy this noble drink to reviews (in a most non-professional manner) of ones that I have tried and liked - or not. Also musings, mine and others, on life in general.

Photographs are roughly 98%+ my own and copy-righted. For the occasional photo that is borrowed, credit is given where possible - recently I have started posting unusual net photographs that seem unique. Feel free to borrow any of my photos for non-commercial use, otherwise contact me. Starting late in 2013 I have tried to be consistent in identifying my photographs using ©smck on all out of camera photos I personally captured - (I often do minor computer changes such as 'crop' or 'shadow' etc but usually nothing major), and using
©norvellhimself on all photos that I have played around with in case it might not be obvious. Lately I have dropped the ©smck and have watermarked them with the blog name.

Monkey Shoulder - Single Malt Blended Whisky

- just poured my evening two fingers of Scotch - a superb blend of single malt whiskies that in my humble opinion ranks well with many a famous single malt and also indeed with that well known (and somewhat expensive) blend of many colours that bars and pubs will charge you an 'arm and a leg' for, but be that as it may, let me just finish by saying that this is a great Scotch Whisky brought to my attention by the 6th Edition of Michael Jackson's Complete Guide to Single Malt Scotch - of 2010 - where it was rated at 88.  We all know, or should know, that ratings are at best a slippery benchmark of sorts for various reasons, by various people.  But that being said, we all know, or should know, that invariably the same whiskies will be in the range of 70 or above for almost all reviewers with some variation according to personal preference of taste and according to the year that the whisky was finally bottled - a guideline for all of us but never a golden standard.

Again, all that being said, this is also a good Scot's priced dram - it is affordable.

if you browse the internet, reviewers, bottlers, etc you will find some interesting stories on such things as how the name came into being,  the well known single malts that comprise this lovely blend,  and tons of information of that fabulous country of Scotland.

Moving Down Stream - I had stopped at the old dam site coming into town to photograph the Great Blue Herons feeding up stream but they were moving down river as I prepared to shoot
