What's It All About, eh?
Cape Breton evokes deep memories and strong emotions for me as well as a deep appreciation for the beauty of my adopted island. My hopes are that you too might find the photos evocative - maybe a view you've not enjoyed before, or an 'Oh I've been there', or if from away that you may be encouraged to visit this fair isle so that you might come to love and breathe Cape Breton as I do. One word about place names that I use - some are completely local usage while others are from maps of Cape Breton that I've purchased over the years. I frequently post travel and other photos that are of interest to me - and hopefully you.
On the right hand side bar find my take on Single Malt whiskey - from how to best enjoy this noble drink to reviews (in a most non-professional manner) of ones that I have tried and liked - or not. Also musings, mine and others, on life in general.
Photographs are roughly 98%+ my own and copy-righted. For the occasional photo that is borrowed, credit is given where possible - recently I have started posting unusual net photographs that seem unique. Feel free to borrow any of my photos for non-commercial use, otherwise contact me. Starting late in 2013 I have tried to be consistent in identifying my photographs using ©smck on all out of camera photos I personally captured - (I often do minor computer changes such as 'crop' or 'shadow' etc but usually nothing major), and using ©norvellhimself on all photos that I have played around with in case it might not be obvious. Lately I have dropped the ©smck and have watermarked them with the blog name.

Supper - IV
I tried posting the full recipe for roasted vegetables but evidently google and microsoft do not speak to one another - or else google is doing to their blogging app what they have done to their photograph app - i.e. - no longer supporting or updating the posting app - drives me crazy - I evidently will have to type the recipe from scratch in googlese - I am about to use the bad words here in my 'G' rated blog I am so disgusted -- blankety blank! blank!! blank!!!
p.s. I can't say that I blame them for I think that microsoft word is crap crap crap
Supper - III
Photo 1 shows onions being added
photo 2 depicts the broccoli and mushrooms being added about 20 minutes later
- and the last photograph shows the finished product ready to be dished up
Supper - II
When all the vegetables - and the caramelized chicken meatballs - had been mixed with condiments I dumped them onto the prepared cooking tray (photo 1). But as photo 2 shows, I reserved the broccoli and mushrooms to be mixed and added later so as to have less roasting time - but I had forgotten the onion pieces which photo 3 shows mixed with oil, etc and ready to add to the tray only a few minutes too late.
[photo 3 also shows Himself's Irish Single Malt that speeds him along in a cheery - if forgetful - mood]
Supper - the old time designation for an evening meal
I'm not much of a cook - growing up in the '30s and '40s the only time I ever saw my dad cook, it was canned baked beans in the frying pan or sliced green tomatoes in the frying pan, while mothers in those days seldom included their sons in learning to cook - so the only actual cooking I ever attempted was around age 13 or so in the scouts where we learned a kind of shish kebob of meat and vegetables on a stick over an open fire. And now years older and a tad more accomplished, I can do one dish meals that are reasonably decent. Tonight's meal - somewhat a variation on the shish kebob - of roasted assorted vegetables in the oven, is the dish I am serving up tonight.
I start with a cookie sheet covered with non-stick aluminum foil, then proceed on to various vegetables, cleaned, cut up into small pieces, placed into a large mixing bowl, drizzled with olive oil and various condiments.
