The Townie
"THE English Sparrow was first introduced into the United States at Brooklyn, New York, in the years 1851 and '52. The trees in our parks were at that time infested with a canker-worm, which wrought them great injury, and to rid the trees of these worms was the mission of the English Sparrow...." and the source of this quote goes on to say how this bird - as with many invasive species - spread throughout North America and in doing so also became a scourge of beloved song birds of many species. However there is no doubt about its' value in eating insects. In my own observations I find this is a 'town bird' hopping about the side-walks and along store fronts and where ever man lives in crowded numbers.
