日暮

牛羊下来久
各己闭柴门
风月自清夜
江山非故园
石泉流暗壁
草露滴秋根
头白灯明里
何须花烬繁

Notes: This poem dates from 767 (Watson p. 154). The flower of the last line can be interpreted both as Du Fu's own past achievements, and (Watson p. 154) as a twisting of the candlewick said to foretell good fortune.

This poem is volume (juàn) 230, no. 58 in the Complete Tang Poems (quán táng shī). It is translated as poem 128 in Watson, p. 154, and on p. 93 of Hinton.
