Looking more closely at the Heron and how he is standing on the fallen tree, I noticed that instead of a traditional one legged stance when resting he seemed to be on two legs, the left of which is dangling rather than being supportive. Perhaps this is why he is in no hurry to be farther away from me, he might just be happy to be resting with that bum leg.
