I just came in from getting a couple of loads of Red Oak in my small - hauls a little over a 1/3 of a cord of wood - cart which I had cut yesterday late afternoon and semi-split into halves and then stacked and covered against the rain predicted for today. Although this morning was overcast there was no rain but knowing it was coming I twiddled away until about 10:30 then thought get the wood to the house and under cover while the ground is still dry and firm for the tractor. By the time I got to the second load the day was drear and spotting rain fairly consistently, and though the work was keeping me comfortable enough, I was getting that 'into-my-bones' feel of working in cold and damp. Splitting halves into quarters, and stacking in the wood rick soon were finished and I came in to my wood fire burning and the feel of wanting something stronger than hot tea to comfort my solitude but not wanting a single malt at this time of day when really I wanted a hot drink, I remembered my sorely missed friend George introducing me to a nice hot toddy of strong black tea, a teaspoon of butter and a shot of good rum, so I checked in the back closets of the entrance way and found most of a bottle of the blueberry liqueur pictured above (15% Alc by volume) squirreled away from some long ago get together and thought I'd give it a try as the toddy enhancer - and it was GREAT.
Give it a try some wet-chill day when you want a good pick-me-up!
