Single Malts - and other odd Musings

Snapping Turtle - III

I was driving home from physical therapy and spotted a land terrapin crossing the highway - so I pulled over with my flashing lights on and walked the vulnerable guy over to the side of the highway (facing the direction that it was originally headed toward) and drove on.  About three miles farther along I spotted this Snapper that was motionless in the very center of the road.  Again I stopped, this time grabbing my camera,  and walked up to photograph him and to think just how I was going to get this one across the road without getting bitten by his vice-like beak.  Before I got to him I heard traffic, two vehicles moving toward us.  I waved them down, one drove slowly on by but the second, a pickup truck, pulled over and the man got out.  He saw I was a bit leery of trying to move the motionless but definitely alive and awake turtle and quickly stepped close, grabbed it by the tail, and holding it safely away from his body he moved it to the verge and released it.  I quickly took the photographs as it lay still motionless on the grass,  I do not think it was harmed by some previous vehicle as there were no signs of trauma on its body and it had stretched out its neck trying to bite him as he carried it.
