What a stroke of luck.
I had gotten some decent - if distant - photographs of the common Wood Duck, a beautiful and definitely plumaged duck that I knew about but had never seen before.
This is a common duck of open woodland around lakes and streams. . . . Wood ducks dodge agilely between the trees in their rapid flight. They feed on plant material from duck-weed to acorns and live in natural hollows in trees, although they will also nest in man-made nesting boxes.
