It was softly raining as I took in this fallow farm land with the wood-lined field demarcations from the comfort of my old pick-up truck. Getting out into the drizzle I was chiefly concerned with two things; keeping the lens of my camera dry and framing the feel of what had attracted me to this photograph. So I missed seeing the large bird of prey high in the tall tree - for if I had done so I would have moved in closer to get a better shot.
The second photo, added here in the lower left, is a 'crop' from my laptop that brings the bird into better view without too much distortion. I have gone back and forth in my mind trying to decide if it is some large diurnal hawk checking out the fields for a meal or if it is possibly a nocturnal owl patiently sleeping out the foul weather day with my best bet being a large hawk.
