I had a chance to purchase this print on silk for a reasonable price - I love it.
(will try to get a better photo and update same later)
I just bought the same print onsilk and I too love it. I paid $175.00 do mind telling me what you paid? I bought mine at an estate auction
ReplyDeleteI bought mine at a local semi-antique shop which caters to various sellers who buy space to display their wares. I think it was around $100 U.S. - but I truly cannot remember for certain. I confess to being a tight-wad in general so I might have gotten it for 20% off for cash. Sometimes these things come back to me very clearly, if so I will put another comment here. I would not sell mine for that though - as I feel it is should be in the $250 range at the very least.
ReplyDeleteThe original painting was made by Meissonier in 1876; it was bought by John Waterloo Wilson (1815-1883) for Fr. 100.000 and in March 1881 it was sold at the auction from his house, avenue Hoche 3, Paris lot 169 for Fr. 125.000 to Mr John William Mackay https://archive.org/stream/wilson00pill#page/142/mode/2up
ReplyDeleteI am still searching for the present location of the painting and a coloured picture of it. Does anyone has more information about it?
